Étape du Tour training camp

Ascending HozIdeal preparation for Quebrantahuesos and the Étape du Tour
Year after year 1000s of riders do these great events and many are caught out by their difficulty due to poor preparation – not enough miles in the legs, not enough climbing and not enough time riding in hot-weather conditions.

Here is what a guest had to say about our last camp :

"I Just wanted to say thanks very much for a fantastic week cycling. I was struggling with fitness before I came on the camp but now feel much better, not only fitter but more motivated too.  I can't wax lyrical enough about the quite &  well maintained roads,  the climbs so near by, the weather, the routes,  the base and of course your organisation. Truly brilliant, and just what everyone should do if they are thinking of riding a sportive. I got back to 2c temps, sleet and snow,  a bit of a difference compared to  21c in Denia. Looking forward to coming back soon. Thanks" - Finlay

The best preparation you can have for riding these sportives is to spend time in a similar environment riding similar distances and terrain – in other words if you are going to ride in the mountains it makes sense to train in the mountains and we have plenty of them here on the Costa Blanca! We have 25 km climbs, we have category one Vuelta climbs, we have climbs of 3kms+ with 10 % average gradients and 17% ramps – and we have the sun and the sea.

This training week has been designed to ensure you get plenty of miles in your legs, plenty of climbing and descending and the chance to experience a 200km, fully-supported ride with over 3500 metres of climbing. This will all be done from our Mediterranean base in Denia so the weather should be warm and sunny, just like the Pyrenees in the summer.

Like our other training camps, you will be guided by riders who live locally and know all the routes. We have experience of Quebrantahuesos, the Étape and Marmotte so there will be plenty of advice for those who want it too!

The training rides will be backed up by vehicle support so you don't need to worry about carrying extra clothes, spares tyres and cameras – we'll do it for you. We will also have supplies of food & drink covered so you won't bonk, you focus on the riding and we'll do the rest.

But let's not forget this will be a fantastic holiday too. During the evening you will have the chance to relax and enjoy the delights of this Costa Blanca town. Denia has miles of beaches, a fantastic new marina and a traditional old Spanish town crammed with bars and restaurants offering mouth-watering Tapas and Cerveza. If you want to study the profiles of this year's big sportives and receive top tips on how to ride them you might as well do it below a Mediterranean sunset – it sure beats a typical Bank Holiday scenario back in the UK!
